Ojai-Ventura Int'l Film Festival Features Kathi Carey's "Worth"

Kathi Carey's "Worth", which has won an unprecedented 25 awards in its first nine months on the festival circuit, will be featured at the Ojai-Ventura Int'l Film Festival this month. Kathi has become known for her auteur film-making style by writing, directing and acting in her projects, which have included serious themes like breast cancer and were accented with irony. "Life seems to have a sense of humor when dealing with us and so that becomes a natural element in my films," says Kathi.

Los Angeles (Billboard Publicity Wire) November 4, 2009 -- When Kathi debuted her newest film "Worth" October 2008 at the La Femme International Film Festival in Beverly Hills, California she had no idea it would go on to become critically acclaimed. Described as a "simple film, yet very profound" "Worth" has captured the attention of industry and public audiences alike. The film has no celebrities or star names that grace the marquee, no big budget special effects and no long list of industry heavy-weights behind it. So what is her secret?

"Worth" is inspired by a turn-of-the-century poem. This seemingly simple film not only has as its central theme "you can't judge a book by its cover", but in an unusual, ironic twist the film also proves the same premise: packed within this 7-minute piece are themes which require most filmmakers a feature-length film to explore. They include class distinction and self-esteem, peer pressure and judging others, limiting oneself and putting limitations on others. Says Kathi, "I like to give the audience something unexpected, something to think about long after the end credits have rolled."

The Ojai-Ventura Int'l Film Festival will feature "Worth" on Friday, November 6 and Saturday November 7, 2009. See http://www.ojaifilmfestival.com/ for more details and schedule.

The Cancun International Film Festival will feature "Worth" on Friday, November 13, 2009. See http://cancunfilmfest.com.mx for more details and schedule.
