Nine New Artists Signed to Date Through Billboard Underground Showcase Performances

Providing the opportunity for unsigned artists to debut in front of music moguls, tastemakers, and influential press, Billboard Underground leverages new talent for a possible contract with top industry labels. Proving highly successful, Billboard Underground's 40-plus shows to date have landed nine new artists with record deals. The shows are held on a quarterly basis with the next to take place in September 2007.

Billboard, the world's most comprehensive source of music, digital data and events, today announced the success of Billboard Underground in signing nine new artists to record labels since its inception. Billboard Underground is a series of live performances by undiscovered artists held at high-profile venues in New York City and in Los Angeles in partnership with Centerstaging/Rehersals.com. Billboard Underground has also expanded into a weekly video series presented on www.billboard.com/underground.

On the cutting edge of what's new in music today, Billboard Underground is the meeting place for fresh talent and music scouts
Artists signed from performances at Billboard Underground:

  • Ryan Star--Star's talents as a singer/songwriter, pianist and guitar player have made his rock ballads an unforgettable creation of original music. He is currently signed under Atlantic Records.
  • Laura Warshauer--23-year-old Warshauer began playing guitar at the age of 12 and has not stopped since. Now signed to Island Def Jam, her pop, rock and folk blend yield a sound that is distinctly her own.
  • The Slip--The Slip, comprised of two brothers and a childhood friend, collectively create a mix of experimental rock with a bluesy feel and a pop sensibility. They are currently planning their first record under the Bar None Records label.
  • LOURDS--This multitalented band of four is rapidly on the rise to superstardom. The band converts songs into a cutting-edge experience, with innovative distortions of an electric violin and an explosive stage presence. LOURDS continues to captivate audiences under the independent label, Breaking Records.
  • Tina Sugandh--Fusing pop, rock, dance and traditional Indian instruments into a signature sound, Sugandh illustrates her ability to capture a wide audience. She is now working on her debut album with the entertainment company, Razor & Tie.
  • The 88--The 88's music is irresistible with buoyant melodies and unforgettable character. Now on the verge of crossing over into mainstream, this quintet is signed to EMK/Mootron.
  • Run Run Run--After three years of perfecting the indie rock sound, Run Run Run has opened for hit rock bands like My Chemical Romance and The Strokes. The band recently struck a deal with Song and Dance Records.
  • Ferraby Lionheart--Lionheart's ability to create heartfelt melodies with smart, yet sincere lyrics gives listeners an emotional ride. Lionheart is now signed to Nettwerk Records.
  • Terra Naomi--Naomi's piano-based songs are full of rebellious and unpredictable personality that is juxtaposed against her rich and soulful voice. Recently signed to Island UK for the world, Naomi continues to influence her audiences with insightful lyrics and relentless touring. On July 7th, Naomi performed at the Live Earth concert at Wembley Stadium in London to an audience of 95,000 people.
