Brazilian Guitar Master Marcos Vinicius Coming to Rollins College

Born in Congonhas Brazil, Marcos Vinicius is one of the most well known of Brazil's contemporary guitarists. He began his concert career at the age of fourteen and from that moment has obtained enormous success and acclaim. Vicinius has played in the most important cultural centers of Brazil and Europe, is President of the Classical Guitar Academy of Milan, and a prominent composer. Vinicius' unique sound, technique and interpretations are attracting more and more attention from composers, critics and fans.

Winter Park, Florida (Billboard Publicity Wire) May 27, 2007 -- Brazilian classical guitar master Marcos Vinicius is coming to Rollins College with New York classical guitarist William Simcoe. The concert will be held in the Tiedtke Concert Hall of the Keene Music Building at Rollins College, 1000 Holt Avenue, Winter Park, Florida. Admission will be $10 for the general public, Rollins students free with ID. Marcos will be performing pieces from his new CD "Viola...Violar", which features the music of 16 great Brazilian composers. William will perform new solo guitar works composed by Marcos Vinicius, and together they will perform duet works and arrangements by Marcos Vinicius.

Marcos Vinicius is from Congonhas, Brazil, but makes his home in Legnano, Italy. A child prodigy in guitar, he began his concert career at the age of 14, and in 1984 he won the prestigious "National Villa-Lobos Musical Contest". He went on to study with Oscar Ghiglia at the Chigiana Musical Academy of Siena. His tours have taken him to Brazil, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Austria, Poland and China. He has produced six CDs, and he has an extensive list of published transcriptions and new compositions. His current publisher, Edizioni Carrara, has given him direction of a classical guitar series called the "Marcos Vincius Guitar Collection". He is the president of the Classical Guitar Academy of Milan and the Artistic Director of "Music Arts - International Festival of Legnano. For more information visit http://www.marcosvinicius.it.

William Simcoe is a classical guitarist from Albany, New York. He is a soloist, ensemble leader, and recording artist. In 2006 William performed in joint recitals with French guitarist Thibault Cauvin in New York and Florida, and at the Ordu International Guitar Festival, in Ordu, Turkey. In 2006 he released his second CD "Mis Suenos de Tango",in collaboration with flautist Elisabeth Williams (Eroica Classical Recordings JDT3274).
