Stan Harrington and Katy J. Making Sweet Music Again in The Craving Heart

Following the success and accolades attributed to his first feature, Bred In The Bone, Stan Harrington has again teamed with singer/songwriter, Katy J. for an encore. The Craving Heart, a feature shot for a mere $8,000, is now turning heads based on the strength of its content, an element, Stan says, is sadly overlooked in favor of the technical these days.

Hollywood, CA (Billboard Publicity Wire) November 9, 2006 -- Following the success of his first guerrilla feature, Bred In The Bone, Aussie expat, Stan Harrington, has again teamed up with sensational singer/songwriter, Katy J for his latest film, The Craving Heart.

In only it's first two festivals the feature has swept 17 nominations and eight wins including, Best Feature, Best Director (twice), Best Actress (twice) for Red and Blythe Metz, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor (twice) for John Saxon and Joe Guarneri. Not bad for a feature shot on a SAG contract for only $8,000. The film has also garnered Katy J. her first nomination for Best Score at the Long Beach Action Film Festival.

The Craving Heart is definitely one of those films that has to be seen twice. ...Masterfully concocted...Harrington's paranormal revelations in The Craving Heart are done in such a sensitive, subtle way that their unexpectedness far surpasses anything Shyamalan could ever possibly conceive of...
The teaming of Stan and Katy J. is almost a given now as their art goes hand in hand even before the script is written. "The entire opening sequence was based on a story Katy J. told me about how she stopped her car in the rain one day because there was a confused lady standing in the middle of the road," says Stan. "I decided to build the story around that image and to use her music exclusively to tell the tale. Her music is so emotionally driven, that you can't help being affected by it. Her passion and her talent are inspirational. Those who haven't yet experienced her are in for a huge surprise," said Harrington.

In October, The Craving Heart screened at Mann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood for The Foundation For The Development Of Independent, International Film Festival and played to a sold out house.

Todd David Schwartz of CBS described it as:
"A resonant depiction of human desire and interaction. This is an example of independent cinema at it's most solid, proof that you don't need a sizeable budget to create a film of worth and intelligence."

Other reviewers added…
"I can't help admire the love and ability that went into it's making...This film defines Independent."
Tony Medly, The Canyon Crier

"The Craving Heart is definitely one of those films that has to be seen twice. ...Masterfully concocted...Harrington's paranormal revelations in The Craving Heart are done in such a sensitive, subtle way that their unexpectedness far surpasses anything Shyamalan could ever possibly conceive of..."
Mitch Persons, Sirens Of The Cinema.

Stan shot the entire film with, at times, no crew. "It's pretty much me and a SONY Z1 camera and a microphone. No lights except a ninja and the occasional tripod. Most of the scenes were shot in under 10 minutes. Primarily because we were getting busted everywhere. We were truly fortunate that The Sundance Media Group took a keen interest in the work and did some post work for us. They are an enormously talented bunch of guys, Spot, Jeffrey Fisher, Mannie…and without them there is no way that the film would have screened as well as it did in that huge theater at Mann's," Harrington said.

The resulting attention The Craving Heart received was, according to Harrington, "validation and a testament to a theory that I have that the story is what really counts. Something with substance, a theme, a big idea, subtext…I think the story should always be the focus and not the technical. There are tons of people whose films looked better than mine or that created better trailers or teasers, but that doesn't keep an audience glued for two hours or there abouts. Theater training, learning from the great playwrights taught me that. The only thing that we had that was truly top shelf to work with, and by top shelf I mean major, movie studio quality, was Katy J's. music. She added a level of sophistication to the film that really elevated the whole thing."
